Welcome to the Hawaii Quilt Guild!

President's Welcome
Aloha, and mahalo for visiting our website! I’m excited to announce that this year the Hawaii Quilt Guild is celebrating 25 years of creative life. Back in the fall of 1983, several handmade posters were distributed that read, “I am interested in starting a quilt guild. If you are interested, please contact me at….” The first meeting was held in January 1984.
In July 1986, the guild issued its first typewritten, cut-and-paste newsletter. As the years went by, we graduated to computers and printed the newsletters at a print shop. Three years ago we initiated our website, www.hawaiiquiltguild.org.
Five years ago, the guild started a charitable group called Helping Hands. Since that time, it has been renamed Na Lima Aloha (The hands of love). The guild has donated over 1,000 quilts, lap blankets and kihei pili to such groups as Shriner’s Hospital, Fisher House at Tripler Hospital, VACFA (VA Center for Aging) at Tripler Hospital, First Step Shelter, care homes and domestic violence groups.
The guild held its first quilt show at Ala Moana Center in its exhibition space in 1988. We now have a free annual show at Linekona Art Center (Honolulu Academy of Arts) every spring.
With a membership of over 200 encompassing quilters from around the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Europe, this year we celebrate the diversity of our quilting styles and the great sense of community we share through the art of quilting. Whether you’re a new resident to Hawaii, or just visiting Oahu, we would love to have you join us at any of our monthly meetings!
